Colorado Sail and Yacht Club
The Colorado Sail and Yacht Club is a group of sailboat racers and cruisers located at Chatfield Reservoir in Littleton, Colorado. We are dedicated to promoting the sport of sailing while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow sailors and sailing enthusiasts. Owning a sailboat is not required to enjoy racing or cruising as a member or associate of the Colorado Sail and Yacht Club. Boat owners are always looking for sailing companions either as crew for racing or just out day cruising. Our attitude is that no one gets left on the docks. Whether you are a discriminating owner, a seasoned crew, a young family with your first boat, or just interested in boating, our club is here for you.

Liberty Point Yacht Club
Liberty Point Yacht Club and we are based out of the South Shore Marina, Lake Pueblo, Colorado. We have 26 boats in the fleet and 35 members. Our first year was 2007. We used it to build the club, start racing and generally bring the sailing community together. For the coming year, we have a full racing schedule set for next year including our Regatta in April. We also plan on holding a live lobster boil on the beach this year as a fund-raiser. Our new Website is www.LPYClub.com

SAIL

An all volunteer operation, it promotes sailing, racing, and education in the Rocky Mountain area as well as provides sailors, clubs & fleets in the region representation within US Sailing. SAIL hosts seminars and provides training opportunities for sailing, race management and judging. In addition it supports race scheduling in the area as well as facilitating interclub/lake and championship regattas.

Hobie Fleet 61
Based in Denver, Colorado Fleet 61’s goal is to develop Hobie sailing within Denver and the Colorado Front Range community for all ages, singles, couples and families. Our Hobie events ( Regattas ( Races ) spring and fall parties ) are for all sailors, racers & non-racers, to come and enjoy with friends and families.

A Hobie regatta carves out a few days of fun in this fast paced world. While the regattas do support racing, they are also very much social events typically offering a dinner, campfire, and tall tales of the day’s sailing adventures. Our summer vacation schedules often allow for an extra day before or after a regatta just to enjoy the locale.

We sail in Division 5 of the Hobie Class Association that includes the mountain lakes of Rockies and the prairie lakes of Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska. Our members com from diverse walks of life from Denver, Breckenridge, Colorado Springs, Boulder Northern Colorado, and western South Dakota.

Hobie Cats ( catamarans, made by Hobie Cat ) are known for being more stable and faster than other small sailboats (monohulls) in light to moderate winds. When the wind is up, Hobies become exhilarating reaching speeds of up to 20 knots ( 25 MPH ). It’s a bit like having a high horsepower V8 under the hood while most sailboats have the equivalent of a small four-cylinder engine.

Hobie 16, 17, 18, and 20 are currently the boats of choice in Division 5. The Hobie 16, 18, and 20 race with two people, a skipper and a crew, while the Hobie 17 races with just a skipper, The Hobie 16 is the simplest and the lightest boat; the 20 is considered the thoroughbred. From a performance perspective, the Hobie 16, 17, and 18 are quite close and the 20 is a bit faster. Regardless of your choice of boat, your races are scored only against the same sized boats.

Fleet 61 enjoys helping new members improve their sailing skills as well as challenging the ‘old salts’ on the water. New members report learning more in just one weekend than in a whole year of sailing by themselves! Come and participate I Hobie sailing. Visit our website for more information and a membership application www.hobiefleet61.org

The Denver Sailing Association
DSA's primary purposes are: To enable and promote sailing and racing of small sailboats on the lakes in and around Denver, Colorado; and to promote camaraderie among sailors.

DSA’s active fleets include One of a kind dinghies, Buccaneer, Laser, Lightning, ,J24, MC Scow, Santana 20, Snipe and One of a kind keel boats. During the summer, keelboats race Wednesday evenings and dinghies race Thursday evenings.

DSA is an informal club, without many of the traditional trappings people have come to associate with "yacht clubs". It retains many of its "parking lot" and "launch ramp" ways. People are more important than a fancy bar in a fancy building. Don't look for neckties or blue blazers; we'll mainly be in sailing clothes.

DSA has no paid staff of any kind. All activities are carried out by unpaid volunteers. Everyone's expected to help carry the load. Low overhead and donated time & effort keeps the dues low.

Most sailing events are held at Cherry Creek Reservoir in Cherry Creek State Park, in the southeast Metro Denver area. The operations base for most events is the marina on the west side of the lake.

Rocky Mountain Lightning Fleet #488
The Lightning is a 19 foot trailerable sloop originally designed by
Sparkman and Stephens as an affordable family day-sailor and racing boat. She has evolved into one of the most popular and competitive one design racing classes in the world. The Lightning's rig is simple, but offers sophisticated sail shape controls. The hull's
unique hard chine design combines stability and sail-carrying power with flat bottom sections that promote planning. A large spinnaker transforms the boat when the wind picks up.

The Class and local Lightning owners will help you find a boat or crew position, will teach you how to sail the boat and provide plenty of helpful advice. Some reasons to consider sailing a Lightning:

1)There’s Lightning racing almost everywhere.
2)Lightnings even 20 years old are still competitive.
3) The boat is one of the best crew trainers on the water today
4) The Lightning is a very roomy boat for day sailing.

Contact Bill Cabrall at (303) 694-9219, Tom McNish (Fleet Captian) at ( 303) 805-2414, or Bob Stoller at (303) 651-2039 for a test sail.

Ultimate 20 Fleet
The Ultimate 20 is a one design boat that easily meets the need of the Colorado Racer. It's a lightweight keelboat with a fully retractable keel that makes it easy to travel the miles between regattas in these western states at a moments notice; a great weekend warrior with the equipment and design to keep the thrill in sailboat racing.
The Ultimate 20 was the result of a team of sailors with impressive credentials. Jeff Canepa headed a team that included Jim Antrim of Antrim Associates-Naval Architects, sail maker and Olympic medalist Jay Glaser, and 505 builder and foil specialist Larry Tuttle. Their idea was simple. Create a monohull with multihull performance. They wanted a dry and stable platform with safe interior space for kids or crew. They also wanted a lightweight trailerable to have responsive dinghy-like handling, all with the cockpit comfort of a 30 footer. After years of prototype testing, the U20 team achieved the perfect blend of size and simplicity, creating the ideal boat for racing ONE DESIGN, PHRF or any weekend sail about. The U20’s design offers exceptional craftsmanship that is reliable, safe, economical, and fun to sail.
Colorado Fleet: Boats located around the area to include. Cherry Creek, Carter, and Ruedi Lakes.
